The clouds raged in the heavens.
A darkness sweeped the landscape, engulfing the towers of metal and glass, covering them in a thick mist that hid away the hells below. Beneath this blanket of white the thick sickness of death and decay hung in the air. The humans trudging forwards, the city limping on in its desperate struggle to keep its head above the murky water.
A young girl of eighteen walked down the abandoned street. A flickering street light the only way to guide her home, her red heels clapped against the asphalt as she hurried onwards. She could hear the whisper of feet behind her. They clicked slowly and deliberately in the small pools of water left by the evenings rain.
She quickened her pace. Her red plastic handbag was clutched tightly in her hands and pressed hard to her chest. Her gaze flicked back over her shoulder, but the street behind her was empty-
He grabbed her black rain coat in a death grip and slammed her against the brick wall. Her breath hitched from the rough treatment.
“Hey there,” he said, his face was shrouded in darkness and she felt her pulse quicken. She couldn't move, could barely breathe and her handbag was still held tightly to her chest. Her blue gaze flicked to it and then back to him. Her grip slackened.
“T-take it...” she managed in a small voice.
In the shadows of his hood he grinned.
“Not what I want,”
Fear twisted in her gut and then all her instincts kicked in. She shoved against him and tried to kick out, but the blow to her jaw shut her up fast. It cracked in her skull, rang in her ears and her mouth tasted like copper.
She slumped against the wall and when she felt hard hands on her over and hot sour breath spill over her face, her heart raced and all she could do was whisper softly to the pounding rain...
"... someone.... " her voice cracked, "h-help me..."
Thunder clapped.
Then Lightning flashed in the black skies.
"Let her go,"
She opened her eyes when a deep rough voice rose from the roar of the rain. Just a few paces away stood a man, he was shrouded in the shadows and she could barely make him out, but he was there.
"Get lost," her assailant muttered without looking back.
Thunder clapped.
Lightning flash-
He was pulled off her with such force and speed she nearly went with him. There was a scuffle and then a sickening crack clapped through the rain.
She looked into the shadows. Her helper stood quietly, his hands balled into fists and eyes focused on the motionless form on the tar road. Her heels clicked softly on the sidewalk when she moved forwards.
"Thank you..." she whispered and he turned around.
A face as gray as cement and texture like weathered stone stared back at her. His eyes a red glow and teeth protruding from his lower jaw. He opened his mouth to speak.
And she screamed.
