The Creation
These monsters loom on the towers and cathedrals and buildings all across the world. Some can be found in graveyards, roadsides, crossroads and even in the homes of elderly gentleman. Their eyes follow you, judging you and people even claim that some of them move when you're not looking. Each was created with a hand of magic and a thought to protect and watch over the world of man...
Gargoyle's were created as watchers, guardians and protectors. Some were created as guides, advisers and some were even made for simple companionship. To put it bluntly there are many reason why they were made, but no matter the reason they were all given life the spells of a Mage.
The Mages used human souls to put into the gargoyle's, they gave them powers known as 'Bonds'. Bonds could range from anything, but depending the way they were made and the stone that was used the gargoyle had 'set in' Bonds already. Then the Mage could choose one more at random to add to the previous two. As they grew in power more and more bonds became available and eventually the Gargoyle could become almost unstoppable. These powers helped the gargoyle complete it's duties or 'Burdens'.
Burdens were the main hold the Mage had on the Gargoyle. As long as the Burden was working and as long as they added new ones, the Gargoyle would and could forever be under the Mage's control. They sometimes added 'hidden' Burdens so that even if the Gargoyle managed to break free of the control spell it would take a long time for him to finish all the Burdens. Unfortunately not all mages are immortal and some died eventually, leaving a master less gargoyle to rot.
But slowly the controlling spell faded away and a gargoyle would find himself in a strange room or perhaps starring down at a street. Feeling strands of self movement for the first time, the shock of his own thoughts and the strange feel of freedom.
But the Burdens still glow bright against their skin, the painful reminder of what the Mages did. Some choose to complete them in the off chance of regaining their human lives. Others ignore them and set off to destroy the Mages. Others still do neither, preferring to live life as they are...
Whatever the choice the path you take begins here...
Masons
The Mason of a gargoyle is the basic way it was created. The creation has some profound effects of then, ranging from powers to beliefs to leadership skills or lack there of. The Mason is the most important thing you can choose for a your Gargoyle, so choose wisely grass hopper.
Thus far there are four to choose from, as the game progresses we will add more, probably about two, but for now these four are available. We made them all as versatile and interesting as possible, if there is a problem don't hesitate to tell us an all questions are received openly and with a smile on our faces.
The Brittle
Created in Paranoia (madness and instability created during an 'episode')
The Brittle are exactly that, brittle. They are unstable and crooked, created during a complete mental break down, the Brittle are the most unstable of the Masons. They are all, fundamentally, mad insane and broken. How this madness comes to light depends on each Gargoyle. But they are utterly unstable and hard to deal with. Their madness makes them an interesting ally and dangerous foe. They are usually very beautiful and blend into mortal society very easily, but this is only because the creator deliberately made them hard to spot. They were usually made as spies or hidden eyes, so that he could listen in on conversation through their ears.
The Brittle do not show their madness on the outside, that is something you will only see when you actually speak to them or observe them. They hide their natures well and are far more perceiving that most give them credit for. They are beautiful creatures usually, but some can be plain or a simple design. All in all the Brittle Gargoyle was created specifically not to give the on looker any breath of thought that they might be in danger.
Their Masks are also much better than others and so too are their ability to read people.
Character Concepts: (THESE ARE MEAN TO GIVE YOU IDEAS, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CHOOSE ONE) Paranoid Spy, Obsessive protector, mad witch doctor, Schizophrenic lurker and crazy dude with picket.
Bonds: Mask (the ability to change your mask into any person at will)
The Tortured
Created in Passion (fury and passion, created during a fit of rage or sadness or love)
The broken lover, the hardened hero and the angry prince. The Tortured are over the top activists, believers and heart wrenched souls. They are passionate and visionaries, but also quick to anger and easily saddened. At the same time they can be quiet activists working from the side lines, but always carrying the world on their shoulders and the problems of day to day life hits them harder than any other being in the world.
They still feel human, through their passion and hardship they understand humanity better than humans themselves. They need them, feed off them and love them. Yet at the same time they hate them, fear them and are jealous of them. When someone cries their hearts break. When an argument breaks out their temper flies. Though the Tortured are utterly focused on emotion they usually harbor only a single one. The one that created them.
The tortured wear their hearts on their sleeves and so to do their gargoyle forms. When one looks at a Tortured Gargoyle one can see the very emotion which created them and not only through expression. His entire being radiates and symbolizes it.
Character concepts: (THESE ARE MEAN TO GIVE YOU IDEAS, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CHOOSE ONE) passionate art visionary, vengeful warrior, cynical watcher and the lustful pimp.
Bonds: Soul Whisper (the ability to read people's thoughts and to place ideas in people's heads)
The Weathered
Created in Loneliness (in the quiet of a man alone, created in search of companionship and a friend)
The Mages from long ago lived in towers away from the world. Quietly they sat everyday and every night working long hours into the night. Their work was precious to them, but they found themselves lonely...
So when someone came along and the Mage took an interest in them, it usually happened that they would disappear and never be heard from again. But they didn't die, they were simply transformed into Gargoyle's. Some Mages just wanted a friend and what better way to do so than to make one person you liked into an immortal statue to have at your disposal for conversation.
The Weathered are tired and weary, wishing that everything would just end. They want to go home and make this madness stop, but it's not going to. Created as a companion and a sort of small guardian for his secrets the Weathered are surprisingly intelligent. They've learned much through the ages from simply listening and some were even passed down from generation to generation of Mages.
The Weathered are small, usually not very big at all, well kept and their forms are quite versatile. Depending on the Mage who created them they can range from a little demon to a majestic dragon.
Character Concepts: (THESE ARE MEAN TO GIVE YOU IDEAS, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CHOOSE ONE) Emo A-Socialite, curious shadow-walker, stuttering scientific fool, nervous scholar, old tired psychiatrist and the lone wolf.
Bonds: Spirit Specter (the ability to project yourself out of your body and move around as a spirit. NOTE: can only do this for a short time and not too far from the body as a start.)
The Chimera
Created in Fear (Created for fear of dying, or losing something,)
Designed by their creator to scare off all unwanted guests the Chimera are vulgar creatures who are as vicious as they look. Brooding and cold blooded the Chimera are, if anything, focused. They might look like monsters, but they do not act like them. In fact they are calculating demons, waiting in shadow for the perfect moment to strike. They have no feelings, very rarely do they show emotion and if they do, it is usually so small that it is near impossible to see. They believe in right and wrong, no grey area.
And no mercy.
Focussed to a fault, the Chimera are notorious for never giving up on a hunt, the have the endurance of something in the netherworld. If a motto would be given to these beasts it would be:
'Never comprimose, not even in the face of Armageddon'
Their Gargoyle's forms are grotesque and ugly, intended to scare off people. They can look vicious, intense, cunning, scary or even just plain ugly. It all depends on the creator.
The Chimera are fearful, they have the strongest tendency to pessimism and cynical views. Ugly outside, but the heart of a protector within, the Chimera embrace everything the Gargoyle's stand for. Guardians of the night.
Character Concepts: (THESE ARE MEAN TO GIVE YOU IDEAS, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CHOOSE ONE) Cruel vigilante, the vigilant guardian, the wizened war hero, a determined leader and powerful speaker.
Bonds: Terror (the ability to bring terror to any creature or human and leave them stunned)
Stone
There are four Stone types from which to choose. Each has different properties and will open different bond types.
Wood: The weakest and most rare, it is rarely seen outside and it's bond is 'Ban of the Mage'.
Granite: The strongest of the stone types. It is usually found in graveyards and its Bond is 'hammer'
Lime Stone: The most versatile and easily the most common Gargoyle, can learn any talent and it's Bond is 'Primal Tongue'
Marble: The most beautiful and a reasonably well used type, they are also quite strong and their Bond is 'Feather'.
All Bonds
